Teacher Information

Description

Students will create a web page for their technology passport that includes the learning style of the student.  This is one of the requirements for the passport in 7th grade.  The students will be taking an online quiz that detects their learning style, and then writing a summary of that for this page.

Teacher to Teacher Notes
This unit should begin in the classroom. Use the "Requirements for Web Page” handout (printed or online) to help students begin the pre-writing and drafting processes prior to coming to the computer lab. Students should also be introduced to the terminology and complete the “Technical Vocabulary” section of the lesson prior to coming to the computer lab.  Students will be visiting a website that determines their learning style.  The quiz is 49 questions, and may take the entire hour.  You will need to complete the quiz in one class period, since you cannot save unfinished work.  The results will be ready immediately, and it is a good idea for the students to copy and paste the results to a word document so they have the information to write the summary at a later time.

Materials
Students’ rough draft papers, "Web Page Directions" handout (printed or online), "Requirements for Web Page" handout (printed or online), "Technical Vocabulary" handout (printed or online).

Resources & Technology
Computer stations for each student (Computers should have FrontPage, Microsoft Word (if necessary), and Internet Explorer)

Procedures/Activities
Classroom Activities: Before coming to the computer lab, conduct a lesson about the meanings of the words listed on the Technical Vocabulary Handout (Website, Homepage, FrontPage, Tag, Graphic, Horizontal Rule, Bulleted List, Link, Word Wrap, Minimize, Maximize). Using the Requirements for Web Page Handout, discuss what is involved in the assignment. The students will have already completed the technology passport introduction page, adding to their interests page, and completing the learning styles portion of their passport.
