Introduction
Labels on cans describe what is inside. They tell us about the
ingredients, the weight, volume and nutritional value of all the contents.
Imagine if people came in nice wrappers with labels describing them. We
wouldn't have to guess about their personalities, their likes or dislikes.
We could just read the labels. Since people don't come with labels,
authors describe their characters with facts and and descriptive phrases
that let us get to know the characters bit by bit. If you could make a
label for a book character, how would the label describe the character?
