About the library staff:
Ms. Richardson, Librarian richarvi@champaignschools.org School phone 217-351-3819
I grew up very near here in western Indiana. I love the city of Champaign, the beautiful prairie scenery and the wonderful people. I have two children. I was drawn to the library field by my love of literature and a mild interest in technology. My favorite genres are historical fiction and science fiction. I have found that I actually enjoy the young adult literature as much as the adult literature and I love to discuss it with students. I graduated from Purdue University with a BA in Library Science and a MS in Instructional Technology from Eastern Illinois University.
Mary Dilliner, Library Secretary
Library Expectations
The library is a place where people can work independently or in small groups. We expect students to work diligently, to respect the rights of others, and to take care of library resources. The library staff assists students and teachers when they come to the library to research curriculum-related topics.
Policies and Procedures
Students may leave class and come to the library on a pass issued by their teacher. This pass should indicate the date and time and say how the student will use the library. Internet research will be allowed if the teacher indicates this on the library pass. The topic of research must be provided so that the library personnel can assist the student in finding appropriate resources. The library staff reserves the right to direct a student to print resources (books, magazines, reference materials) if they are deemed more appropriate than the internet. Upon arrival, the student will give his/her pass to a library staff member. The pass must be signed as the student exits the library.
Checking Out Materials
All reading classes have biweekly checkout times. If they have no fines or lost books on their records, students may check out three books for a period of two weeks. The books may be renewed for two additional weeks. Students will be required to show their student ID when checking out.
Reference and reserve books may be checked out after 2:30 PM but are due by 8:00 AM the following morning. The late fine for these books is one dollar per hour beginning at 8:00 AM.
Overdue Notices, Fines, and Fees
Students who have overdue materials and/or fines will be notified bi-weekly. All library obligations such as lost, damaged, or overdue books and fines must be dealt with before additional checkouts are allowed. If a student is paying on an overdue fine or for a lost book, he/she will be allowed to check out no more than one book after the fine reaches 50 cents.
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are always welcome. Volunteer opportunities include shelving books, repairing books, and assisting students with research. Students from the University of Illinois Graduate School of Library and Information Science who are interested in a practicum or student teaching at Franklin should contact the librarian.
Illinois State Learning Standards
We love to have students come to library and read for fun, but we also view ourselves as partners in instruction. In building our collection and working with students and teachers, the library staff strive to support curriculum objectives and the Illinois State Learning Standards.
