Charger Girls Cross Country 2006
Coach Buss enters her fourth season as the Charger’s Cross Country Coach. Coach Buss Began her tenure as girls’ cross country coach at a turning point in Illinois cross country history. As, 2002 marked the first year that the girls’ in Illinois began racing 3 miles. Her first three teams have all participated in the sectional championships. In 2002, she coached an individual athlete to the state cross country championships in Peoria. Coach Buss continues to focus on rebuilding the program in an effort to regain the prominence previously accomplished by Centennial athletes and teams.
Coach Buss also coached the Centennial girls’ distance runners during the 2003 track season. She had two athletes advance to the state championships. Haley Eastin in the 800 meters and Brandy Buss in the 1600 meters. Brandy placed 4th in the class AA 1600 meter run along the way establishing the Centennial school record.
Coach Buss has a degree in physical education with training in exercise physiology. As an athlete, Coach Buss was a junior college national champion in the mile while at Florissant Valley Community College in St. Louis. She was also a NCAA Divisoin 1 national qualifier in the 1500 meters while at Long Beach State. Coach Buss continued in competitive running for a while after college and was on the third place team at the USA National Cross Country Championships in 1983. Coach Buss enjoyed support from both Team Kangaroo and Nike during her competitive days.
Coach Buss’ other coaching experience includes: Cross Country Coach at Kennedy High School in LaPalma, CA. 1983, Track & Field coach for the Los Alamitos Park District youth program 1983, volunteer softball coach for the Champaign Park District 1993-1999 and softball coach for the Central Illinois Diamonds 1998-2000.
