To earn a varsity letter at Centennial High School the following requirements need to be met:
FOOTBALL: To receive a varsity letter in football, a player must:
1. Play in 16 different quarters of a regular season varsity football game. Entering and playing for one play constitutes a quarter playing credit.
2. Follow football athletic guidelines of conduct and behavior.
3. Attend year-end banquet. A player may be excused from the banquet because of personal illness and illness or death in family.
The coach has the right to waive such requirements when they are affected by injury or other circumstances which are beyond the control of the player.
Any player dedicating himself for 4 years of participation in football but does not meet playing time requirement will be issued a letter at the end of the season.
All awards will be held until equipment issued is turned in and inventoried.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY: To receive a varsity letter in cross country:
1. The athlete must earn 15 points.
2. One (1) point will be awarded in dual, triangular, or quadrangular meets for finishing ahead of the other teams' 5th runners.
3. Three (3) points will be awarded for finishing in the top 1/3 of the field at Big 12 invites. Two (2) points will be awarded for finishing in the top 2/3, and one (1) point will be awarded for finishing.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY: To receive a varsity letter in cross country:
1. The athlete must earn 10 points.
2. One (1) point will be awarded in dual, triangular, or quadrangular meets for finishing as one of Centennial's top eight runners.
3. Three (3) points will be awarded for finishing in the top 1/3 of the field at invitationals. Two (2) points will be awarded for finishing in the top 2/3, and one (1) point will be awarded for finishing.
BOYS GOLF: To receive a varsity letter in boys golf, a golfer must:
1. Earn 15 points as follows:
One (1) point for qualifying and playing for team at a meet or tournament. One (1) additional point if score counts in team total.
One (1) additional point if score is the lowest of Centennial's team at a meet or tournament.
One (1) additional point if score is the lowest of all players in a meet or tournament.
2. Be of good character and be approved by coach and athletic director.
GIRLS GOLF: To receive a varsity letter in boys golf, a golfer must:
1. Earn 15 points as follows:
One (1) point for qualifying and playing for team at a meet or tournament. One (1) additional point if score counts in team total.
One (1) additional point if score is the lowest of Centennial's team at a meet or tournament.
One (1) additional point if score is the lowest of all players in a meet or tournament.
2. Be of good character and be approved by coach and athletic director.
BOYS SOCCER: To receive a varsity letter in boys soccer, the athlete must:
1. Exhibit a positive attitude, commitment, and effort toward team goals.
2. Attend all practices and games unless excused by the coach.
3. Play in 40% of varsity game halves. Exceptions may be granted by the coach if there is just cause.
4. Return all assigned equipment.
GIRLS SWIM: To receive a varsity letter in girls swim, the athlete must:
1. Average 1 1/2 points per dual meet.
2. Finish the season in good standing.
3. Turn in all equipment.
4. Have final approval of head coach.
NOTE: If you hold yourself out of a meet, you forfeit your letter.
GIRLS TENNIS: To receive a varsity letter in girls tennis, the athlete must:
1. Be among the top 10 players whom the head coach selects as the 10 players who made the greatest contribution to the varsity matches.
2. Finish the season in good standing.
3. Attend the awards banquet.
The coach reserves the right to make an exception to these requirements if there is just cause.
VOLLEYBALL: To receive a varsity letter in volleyball, a player must:
1. Complete the entire season as an active team member by contributing as much as possible toward the success of the team.
2. Attend all games and practices unless excused by the coach.
3. Participate in 12 games and half of each game (10 points is half).
4. Exhibit good sportsmanship and behavior toward players, coaches, and officials at all times.
5. Attend the awards banquet.
The coach has the right to waive such requirements when they are affected by injury.
BOYS BASKETBALL: To receive a varsity letter in boys basketball, a player must:
1. Attend all games, practices, etc. unless excused by the coach.
2. Be a member of the team in good standing when the season ends.
3. Have all equipment turned in. Any equipment missing must be paid for.
The coach reserves the right to not award a letter to a player if there is just cause.
GIRLS BASKETBALL: To receive a varsity letter in girls basketball, a player must:
1. Attend all practices, games, etc., unless excused by the coach.
2. Conduct herself in a respectful manner throughout the entire season.
3. Abide by the rules set forth by the coach and the athletic department.
4. Play in one quarter per game. Three minutes of playing time in a game is enough to satisfy the quarter requirement. An exception to this requirement would be if a player were to play in a crucial game or come in at a crucial point in the game (coach's discretion).
5. Attend awards banquet.
BOYS SWIM: To receive a varsity letter in girls swim, the athlete must:
1. Average 1 1/2 points per dual meet.
2. Finish the season in good standing.
3. Turn in all equipment.
4. Have final approval of head coach.
NOTE: If you hold yourself out of a meet, you forfeit your letter.
WRESTLING: To receive a varsity letter, an athlete must:
1. Attend practices and meets regularly.
2. Remain on the team for the entire season.
3. Demonstrate a desire to learn the fundamentals of wrestling.
4. Receive the approval of the coaches.
5. Turn in or pay for all equipment checked out.
6. Wrestle in 1/3 of the meets.
7. Win a minimum of 5 varsity matches.
Other ways to receive a letter:
1. Place 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th at the Big 12 Conference Tournament.
2. Place 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th at the Regional Tournament.
3. Coaches discretion:
-- Wrestlers chosen to represent the team in the team state tournament series will be carefully considered for a letter.
-- A wrestler who has participated in the Centennial wrestling program for 4 years.
-- A varsity wrestler who was injured during the season and was unable to continue wrestling.
BASEBALL: To receive a varsity letter in baseball, a player must:
1. Play in as many innings as there are games played; e.g., if there are 20 games played, a player must play in 20 innings.
2. All players on a conference championship team or a regional championship team will letter.
3. The coach reserves the right to award a letter to any player who promotes a positive attitude, dedication, and commitment to a practice ethic that helps make the program better.
4. The coach has the right to waive such requirements when they are affected by injury or other circumstances that are beyond the control of the player.
SOFTBALL: To receive a varsity letter in softball, a player must:
1. Play in 20% of the varsity innings for the season or play in 50% of varsity games for the season.
2. Be on a conference championship team.
3. Be on a regional championship team.
4. Attend the softball awards banquet.
5. Return or pay for all issued equipment.
An athlete who would have qualified for a letter had it not been for an injury is eligible to receive a letter.
The coach reserves the right to award a letter to any player who promotes a positive attitude, dedication, and commitment to a practice ethic that helps make the program better, regardless of the aforementioned requirements.
GIRLS SOCCER: To earn a varsity letter in girls soccer, the athlete must:
1. Conduct herself as a varsity player both on and off the field by being:
a. Respectful to their fellow players at all skill levels.b. Supportive of their teammates.
c. Supportive of their fellow students, no matter what the endeavor.
d. Gracious winners and good losers.
e. Respectful to the referees and game officials and following correct game protocol.
2. Log significant playing time in 50% of all varsity halves.
3. Return all equipment.
Seniors who do not meet the criteria for a letter may receive a letter if they have been a positive force in the program.
An athlete who would have qualified for a letter had it not been for an injury is eligible to receive a letter.
BOYS TENNIS: To receive a varsity letter in boys tennis, the athlete must:

GIRLS TRACK: To receive a varsity letter in boys track, the athlete must:
1. Total points earned must equal the number of small meets plus 1.
