1946:  4th Place in State in Wrestling at 120 pounds

 

1948:  2nd Place in State in Wrestling in 133 pounds

 

Norman Compton (1948):

Nicknamed “Re-Pete”, Norman was a left half back his senior year on the 1947, 8-1, football team. He was a member of the 1947 Big 12 championship team where he scored 8 touchdowns.  Norman rushed for 861 yards and averaged 5.6 yards per carry, he finished 33 yards behind rushing leader Zeke Bryant. Norman lettered in wrestling. He won numerous Big 12 Championships as a Champaign wrestler. He placed 4th at state at 133lbs his sophomore year and 2nd in state at 127lbs during his senior campaign.  As a junior, Norman’s only loss was in the state championship match.  As a senior he was co-captain of the wrestling team with his brother Norton. He was the Big 12 and Conference champion at 133lbs; he separated his shoulder in finals of sectional and finished 2nd at state. The shoulder separation ended his wrestling career. He was named 1948 co-runner up to Rod Fletcher as Central High School Athlete of the Year.
