1948:  State Champion in Wrestling at 138 pounds

Norton Campton (1948):

Nicknamed “Pete”, Norton was a right halfback his senior year on the 1947, 8-1, team. He was a member of the 1947 Big 12 Championship team where he scored 3 touchdowns. Norton lettered in wrestling. He paced 3^rd at state his sophomore year at 138lbs. Norton was the only undefeated wrestler, 17-0, on Champaign’s Big 12 and State Championship team. He was co-captain with Norman on the 1947 team. Norton wrestled at the University of Illinois at 136lbs. He was a Big 10 Champion and 4^th place finisher at the NCAA’s in 1952. In 1953 he was named team captain. He was the Big 10 Champion at 136lbs and voted most outstanding wrestler. He placed 2^nd in 1953  at the NCAA Championship.
