Highlights as Coach: 2004 was the first winning season at Central in 10
years. In 2005-2006, CHS won back-to-back Big 12 titles for the
first time since 1982-1983. The 2006 team set a school record for wins
(30-7) and garnered a #1 sectional seed for the first time in school history.
Helped initiate Jr. High baseball in Champaign public schools by piloting
program at Edison Middle School in 2007. Being apart of the program's
1,000th win in March 2009. Five Spring Break trips (Cocoa Beach, FL in
'09 and '10; Memphis, TN in '11 and '12; Myrtle Beach '13). In 2013,
Staab won his 200th game against Urbana on May 14 and was named to the IHSA Baseball Advisory Committee. Twenty CHS players have gone
on to play college baseball during Staab's tenure.
Coached St. Matthew Jr. High
to back-to-back-to-back state tourney appearances in 2010 (20-3), 2011 (21-2),
and 2012 (20-4). The 2012 team placed 3rd at the IESA State tournament.
