Champaign Central High School Girls Basketball

2009 – Coach Starkweather.   The 2009 season started out with a tough game against Decatur MacArthur. Though the hard work and effort wasn't quite enough for a win, in the next game against Danville, it proved to be enough. Although the lady Maroons were unable to defeat Urbana, they did turn around and destroyed Centennial. In the Charleston tournament, the girls won two out of three games. One of the best performances in recent history came when they played Chicago Providence St. Mel. The maroons trampled their opponent, winning by nearly fifty points. Another great game was the upset against Urbana on Urbana's senior night. Sadly, the maroons lost to Urbana in the first round of the post season. Seniors Sheriah Mason and Shelby Strang will be missed and look to Okeima Hampton and Kierra Robinson to lead the team next year.

2008 – Coaches Stillman and Lindeman.  The 2008 season was a rebuilding season due to the loss of key seniors last year. The team's final record was 5-22, and they placed 10th in the Big 12. The team was led by two seniors; Spencer Bolden and Kelly Kyrouac. A highlight of this season was when the Maroons beat Centennial 73-51. The season ended with a heartbreaking Regional loss to Rantoul.

2007 – Coach Mike Lindemann.  The 2007 girls basketball team had another successful season. The team was led by their seven strong seniors Lauren Svymbersky, Kelsey Tappendorf, Charity Davis, Hope Elam, Kristine D'Urso, Janelle Yambert, and Oleshia Lee. Hope Elam had both the highest average points per game and rebounds week after week in the News Gazette statistics. She also broke four school records including most career rebounds and most points in season. Central finished fourth in the Big 12 Conference but lost in the first round of Regionals.

2006 – Coach Mike Lindemann.  The 2006 girls basketball team had one of the best seasons in the team's history. The team was led by seniors Allie Lindemann, Julene Miller, and Kristina Russell. Allie Lindemann was a huge asset to the team. She even made Champaign-Urbana history this year by breaking the girls' record of points, making 2,000 in her high school career. Eunice Gill also was a great athlete who reached her own personal goal of scoring 1,000 points.

2005 – Coach Mike Lindemann.  The 2005 Central girls basketball team was phenomenal this year. It was one of the best seasons in the school's history with a record of 26-6. The team was led by Allie Lindemann and Hope Elam. The lady maroons won Regionals and advanced to Sectional finals where they lost to Normal Community.

2004 – Coach Mike Lindemann.  The Central girls' basketball team was expected to have a big turn around this year. Mike Lindemann a first year Central head coach, was a well-known coach and it was hoped that he would bring a new twist to the program. It seemed that he did so by starting the season by winning the Chatham-Glenwood Turkey Tournament. The team then went on to beat Centennial for the first time in 12 years and broke the rivals home winning streak of 29 home wins. The Maroons started off the season with a record of 12 wins, which broke the record of total wins at the end of the season last year.

2003 – Coaches Seward-Burton and Lindemann.  The 2003 girls basketball team had an outstanding season. With nine juniors on the team there was no lack of upperclassmen and leadership, and the future looks bright for Central next year. Seniors Erica Rodgers and Heather Overmyer motivated the team to a successful season. Freshman Allie Lindemann brought fresh talent to the team and played a huge role on the team. The girls had a fun season and look forward to next year.

2002 – Coaches Kimberly Seward-Burton, Porter Battle, and Rolilta Washington.  The Central girls basketball team knew this year would be different after losing six key seniors. The young team had a lot to prove. Seniors Liz Smith, Ashley Davis, and Shawanna Lee had to step up to a team mostly composed of sophomores. These girls were not worried, with a little more experience and a majority of the girls returning next year, the team will be one to look out for in the future.

2001 – Coaches Kim Seward-Burton, Porter Battle, and Rolilta Washington.  The 2001 season was a successful one for Central girls basketball. Despite having suffered some very close losses, the girls finished with the 8th place seed in their Sectional. On senior night, along with saying goodbye to seven seniors, the girls celebrated a win against the Big 12 opponent Rantoul. The team made it to the Regional Championship game and played Urbana.

2000 – Coaches Kim Seward-Burton, Porter Battle, and Rolilta Washington.  The 2000 Central girls basketball team swept the Charger Invite, placed 5th in the Charleston Tournament, and received second seed in the Regional tournament.

 1999 – Coaches Kim Seward-Burton, Porter Battle, and Rolilta Washington.  Central's girls basketball team dealt with injuries all season long. The team was also very young but still managed an impressive 6th seed for Regionals. They worked hard as a team and have the skill to excel over years to come.

1998 – Coaches Kim Seward-Burton, Lisa Martinez, and Katie Hale.  Janelle Johnson was named to the All-Tournament teams at the Centennial and Charleston tournaments. Molly Krol was named Athlete of the week by a local news station. The team motto this year was: "Team first, me second".

1997 – Coach Lee Hull.   The girls basketball team this year beat Mattoon, toppled Normal, beat Rantoul twice, and almost knocked off the number 2 team in the state. the season record was 13-11 and the MVP was Shayla Biggers.

1996 – Coaches Hull, Norman, Barnett, Forsyth, and Hale.   Captain: Leslie Harms. With no seniors this year, next years team has great potential.

1995 – Coach Woods.   A highlight of this season was when Jamie O' Connor became the first girl ever to score more than 1,000 career points at Central.

1994 – Coach Hull. The lady Maroons started their season at Centennial's Turkey Tournament and came out with a 58-56 win over Rantoul.                               Season Record:7-11.        

1993 – Coaches Catchings and Skadden.   The most exciting game for the team this year was the Danville game. After losing in the two previous games to Danville by 17 and 30, the lady maroons pulled out an overtime win against the top ranked Vikings.

1992 – Coach Woods.   The lady maroons were led by Amy Edwards, Carrie Harney, Kristy Harris, and Tyre Campbell.

1991 – Coaches Sparks, Kunz, and Schooley.   Season Record: 0-24

1990 – Coaches Sparks, Schooley, and Theill.   Season Record: 0-23

1989 – Coach Fred Schooley. With ten seniors and three juniors, the girls basketball team was very successful team this year. The girls started off the season with a second place finish in the Thanksgiving tournament. Victories over Bloomington and cross-town rival Centennial earned them their trophy. the girls were tied with six other teams in the Big 12 when they left for winter break.

1988 – Coach Fred Schooley.   Central's Girls Basketball Team had a much improved season over last year. The girls opened up the season with victories over both Centennial and Bloomington in the Centennial Tournament. The team consisted mostly of Juniors, so the majority of the team should be returning for a great season next year.

1987 – Coach Fred Schooley.   The girls basketball season this year consisted of two tournaments and sixteen conference games.

1986 – Coach Fred Schooley.   The girls basketball team was very young this year and hopes to be ready and aggressive for next season.

1985 – Coach Fred Schooley.   Pam Seward was the leading scorer and rebounder this season averaging 14.4 points per game and 8.7 rebounds per game. Overall, the team placed second in the Conference.

1984 – No information available at this time.

1983 – Coaches Harris and Melvin.   The highlight of this season was beating cross-town rival Centennial by nine in the Charger invitational.

1982 – Coaches Harris and Sparks.   Season Record: 7-18  

1981 – Coach John Hornaday.   The girls basketball team this year ended their season with a 10-12 record. With five seniors graduating, next year's  team will hopefully be filled with new and excited players.

1980 – Coach Catchings.   Season Record: 3-10.

1979 – Coach David.   This young team consisted of only one senior this year. Season Record: 3-12.

1978 – Coach Hansen.   Season Record: 5-11.

1977 – Coach Hansen.   Lead by Martha Shaw, Debbie Everett, and Cathy Stukel, the girls basketball team this year ended their season with a record of 12-2.

1976 – Coach Patton.   Maroon's 41-25 victory over arch-rival Centennial kicked off their expanded 10-game season. The team ended with a record of 10-1.

1975 – Coach Becky Sheridan.   Season Record: 4-4.
