Information
for Community Partnerships, Support, and Donations
Franklin Middle School
has received support from various places throughout the
2007-2008 school year. We look forward to expand on this
for the 2008-2009 school year.
During the
2008-2009 school year we received support and donations from:
Lowes
Toolbox for Education Grant - Franklin is excited to
announce that we have received a $5000 grant from Lowes
to place Smart Boards in four of our Math and Science
classrooms, as a part of
Franklins Math and Science Smart Board Initiative.
Champaign/Urbana Schools Foundation - CU Schools
Foundation has provided 22 our our teachers with
SPLASH grants, providing each teacher with up to $500.00
toward classrooms materials.
- Some of the items acquired by the teachers are:
wireless slates, books, student computers, projectors, along with
many other items.
AmerenIP
- A second donation of $500.00 toward our
Math and Science SmartBoard Initiative, which helped
to mount projectors in three of our math and science
classrooms.
DonorsChoose.org - Teachers are continuing to use Donors Choose,
which allows our teachers
to create an online request classroom materials.
Donors Choose then allows individuals to view these
requests and submit an online donation toward the
classroom materials.

Computers for Franklin
Students -
Prairienet, a part of the Community
Informatics initiative at the Graduate School of Library
and Information Science, at the University of Illinois,
has provided 15 computers for Franklin students who do
not have computers at home. Nine students have already
received their computers, the other 6 will receive their
computers the week before winter break. We are hoping
this will become a recurring donation every semester.
Prairienet is able to help our students through donated
computers from the community. If anyone in our
community would like to help our students in this
endeavor, please donate your old computers to
Prairienet. The computers will then be reconditioned
and passed on to our students.

During the
2007-2008
school year we received support and donations from:
The Lion's
Club - donation of a new LCD projector, which allows
teachers to check out the projector to display digital
images on a screen in their class room.
Best Buy
- The Best Buy Management Team has donated a new
tripod and two high quality microphone headsets to
Franklin for use in our multimedia productions.
AmerenIP
- donation of $500.00 toward our
Math and Science SmartBoard Initiative, which helped
to mount projectors in three of our math and science
classrooms.
DonorsChoose.org - Donors Choose allows our teachers
to create an online request classroom materials.
Donors Choose then allows individuals to view these
requests and submit an online donation toward the

- During the 2007-2008 school year, through Donors
Choose a few of our Franklin teachers have requested,
and received donations to fund classroom books and other
reading materials, and LCD projectors.
We all recognize the fundamental truth in
the old African proverb, "It takes a village to raise a
child." And Champaign County is rich in resources that
can dynamically impact the quality of education our
children receive.
