Classroom
Information
Reading
Carrie Busey
School has an at home reading requirement for all second graders. They are
required to read at home with a family member for only 15 to 20 minutes a
day. To show that you have met this requirement please fill out a galaxy sheet
and send it in. For first graders to meet the monthly reading requirement they
need to fill out and return at least three Galaxy Sheets a month.
Book in a Bag:
Every night
your child will bring home a clear plastic bag with handles. Inside the bag
should be their galaxy sheet & at least one book sometimes 2. These books are
for you to read to your child. The best way to make your child hate reading is
to make them read a book that is too difficult. Please record the time
spent reading with your child on their Galaxy Sheet. I let them take books home
and expect them back the following day. If it is not returned you will receive
a note and they will not bring a new book home until the old one is returned.
The second book is their guided reading book. This is the book that I have
worked with your child on in a small group. It is also supposed to be returned
on a daily basis. Guided reading books cost $5.00 to replace.
Homework
Students will have homework on a
nightly
basis. The only night they will not have homework is Friday night.
Please make sure their homework is returned to school the next school day.
Missing Work:
If
students misplace or forget to bring
their homework back to
school the following day they will miss our afternoon classroom recess. I
little reminder will be sent home for parents to help find the homework as
well.
Newsletters:
Weekly newsletters
will be sent home on Fridays. This will tell you what we have done in
class for the week, upcoming school events, snack helpers for the next week, &
the best part of the newsletter is your child’s picture at school. Be on
the lookout for our Friday newsletter.
Book orders:
I will be
sending home book orders throughout the school year. This is how I replace lost
or overly loved books the children barrow from our classroom library. When you
order books our class can order replacement books.
Take Home Folders:
My way of
keeping you informed about what is going on at school is through your child’s
take home folder. I send daily or weekly communications home and you send
questions, concerns, lunch money, and completed homework back. This folder
should be checked & emptied nightly by a family member.
School Hours:
School begins
at 7:50 a.m. regular dismissal time is 2:15 p.m. You will be notified of any
early dismissals.
Parent Volunteers:
Some examples of ways you
may volunteer in or out of the classroom are: classroom parties, reading with
kids in class, or coming into the classroom during our daily guided reading time
to refocus children while at literacy centers.
Dismissal
School policy
states that the classroom teacher must be notified of any changes in how a child
gets home from school by a family member. Please provide a written note if
there are any changes in how your child will be going home from school. This
cuts down on any confusion at the end of the school day.
Lunch Money:
All lunch money
must be turned in on the first day of classes for that week. If the lunch money
is turned in late your child will be given an alternative from pizza on Friday.
Car Riders: Car riders will
be dismissed from their classrooms at 2:15. They will walk down to the
Community Room and out to the east parking lot. There are patrols in the east
lot to help your child get to your car safely.
Heelys:
Heelys
are fun for at home. Unfortunately, they are not appropriate for school. It is
school policy that all wheels be left at home.
Birthdays:
We like to
celebrate birthdays together between 1:00 – 1:30 p.m. Please let me know ahead
of time if you will be sending something. Please try to make it a simple treat
i.e.: cupcakes or cookies. I am not able to cut cakes in the classroom.
Invitations:
Please do not
send party invitations to school unless you are planning on inviting the entire
class. This cuts down on any hurt feelings of the people who were not invited.
Recess:
We will be
going outside for recesses almost every day please make sure your child
is dressed appropriately for the weather.
Music/Art/P.E.:
This year each of our special classes will be held between 1:30
– 2:10 p.m. They will be on a three day rotation. So every third day your
child will begin a new rotation. This means that the days of
P.E.
/ Music
/ and Art
will change.
On the days we do not have P.E. we will have a supervised physical activity
organized by myself. It would be a good idea to wear P.E. shoes on a daily
basis.
First Grade Supplies: In
second
grade we need a few more supplies for the school year
*1 container of antibacterial hand wipes or the
liquid pump is fine as well
*1 container of Lysol disinfecting wipes
(Hopefully this will control the spread of colds & viruses.).)
Contacting Me: You can usually
reach me after school between 2:30 and 4:00 at 351-3811 or
morian02@sbcglobal.net. I am also required to attend several meetings
during the school year. Scheduling appointments would be a good idea. |
