Welcome to Ms. Weber's Class

This is my first year with Unit #4 and I am teaching at Franklin Middle School.  I am also the JV Softball coach at Central High School.  One of the jobs of a physical educator is to relay information on how to maintain health and exercise in an everyday lifestyle.  This fact is extremely important because Obesity is now the #1 cause of death in our country.  The curriculum presented to students at Franklin will provide the necessary skills to maintain a healthy lifestyle with physical activity and have fun doing it.

Classroom News...

We just ended our basketball unit, and we are involved in pickle-ball and will soon be starting stations for the next couple of weeks.  We are looking forward to the spring where we will be involved in many different outdoor activities.

My Educational Background

I grew up in Central Illinois and I am excited about teaching in the area.  I obtained a Bachelor's of Science in Middle School Education at Illinois State University.  I am endorsed in the area 's of P.E., Language Arts, and Social Studies.  I will hopefully try to begin my Master's program in the next couple of years to further my education.

My Learning Profile
Since the schools in the district contain diverse populations, it is a necessity to use different teaching techniques for different learning styles.  We try and incorporate visual aids and demonstrations, as well as reading materials to cater to the different ways that students can learn.

INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE
The influential people that come to life in my mind are mostly female and male athletes.  Sheryl Swoopes was an early pioneer for women's basketball when she was with the Olympic Team in the early 90's.  She gave hope and made it exciting for young girls to play sports at the time.  Pat Summit is a woman who is very driven and has great ambition.  She was an Olympic Basketball player and then became a coach for Tennessee and created a dynasty.  Most of these people made something of themselves when others doubted them because of their gender.

HOW I COMMUNICATE

When working in a middle-school setting it is very important to be able to work well amongst your students in a positive atmosphere.  I let my students know that I have rules and guidelines to follow in class and they are there for specific reasons.  I am up front about the expectations in class and communicate with my students in a respectful way because they know that is the way that I would like to be treated as well.

Parent Involvement

Parental support within our program is a necessity.  Parents should be asking their children on a daily basis if they are dressing and participating in PE/Health.  Also, it would be beneficial for parents to do regular checks to see if the child is bringing their PE uniform to class and if it is clean.  We also greatly appreciate the financial support provided by parents for extra activities such as rollerskating
