Welcome to Garden Hills Elementary School!

As principal of Garden Hills Elementary School, I would like to extend a warm welcome to you as you visit our web site.

I am very proud of our students and their daily academic success.  They work hard to meet the district outcomes and their individual goals.  They are also successful in demonstrating respect, citizenship, and a caring attitude toward others.

It is also a pleasure to work with the 45 school staff members who are dedicated and competent individuals.  Strong teamwork and good communication enables them to focus on student growth and achievement.  Garden Hills’ staff members are highly qualified and knowledgeable about current best practices. They embrace changes that will benefit student learning and strive for academic growth for all children.

Our school improvement goals this year are in the area of reading, math, and diversity.  We set goals for academic improvement and plan for staff training.  We gather data throughout the school year to assist us in evaluating student achievement.  We use the ISAT scores and the daily classroom work.  Reflection about our work is on-going.

At Garden Hills we work hard to foster a strong partnership with parents and the community.  We believe this is crucial to the success of our students.  Keeping parents informed is accomplished through newsletters, phone calls, voice mail, e-mail, conferences, mid-term reports, and report cards.  The parents at Garden Hills Elementary School take their role as involved parents very seriously. The community has been a tremendous support in terms of time and talent for the staff and students at Garden Hills Elementary School.  Community volunteers and PTA members have dedicated their time as tutors, mentors, interpreters, room volunteers, and financial supporters of various causes throughout the school.

When I am talking to new families about our school and we walk around the building, I often hear comments about the warm and friendly environment.  This is reassuring because we all work hard to make Garden Hills Elementary School a safe and respectful place where adults and children can grow and learn.

Garden Hills' Students "Rocked Out" the ISAT!

Five days of dancing, four days of testing, one inspirational song.  Garden Hills' students have completed the ISAT and have done awesome!  Scores won't be available until next fall, but the staff consensus is definitely positive.  Students started the week off with an ISAT assembly, in which the Kindergarteners said a cheer, Primary students handed out hand-made ISAT book marks to Intermediate students, and everyone joined in to sing our unofficial school song "I Believe I Can Fly."  Continuing the excitement, Mrs. Kennedy led students in dance first thing every morning to wake us up!  This was one exciting week for Garden Hills!
