On January 12, 2010, Mr. Doug Butler, a sixth grade social studies/English Language Arts teacher on the Penguins team at Jefferson Middle School, was presented with a GOLDEN APPLE AWARD by News Channel 15 and Busey Bank “to recognize a commitment to excellence in education.” Channel 15 WICD will broadcast the presentation on Thursday 1/14/10 on their 6pm news broadcast. It will be repeated during Friday’s morning show (1/15/10) and will be available on their website that Friday afternoon.

It's Here, Home Access Center!

Home Access Center provides an online grade book where parents and guardians can view helpful student information to support and guide their children through the educational process. From home or work, at any time of the day or night, parents can access the Web portal to track academic achievement through their student’s test scores, report card, attendance records, and class assignments. 22 JMS Teachers receive CU Schools Foundation Splash Grants

JMS teachers received 500$ Splash Grants from the CU-Schools Foundation. The grants were used on new books, LCD projectors, SMART Boards, Airliners, Digital Document Cameras and much more. For more information or to donate go to the CU Schools Foundation Website and help support our schools.

Jefferson Middle School earns honors and recognition of being a National Demonstration School for the AVID Program. (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Jefferson is one of only two schools in the entire state of Illinois!

Jefferson Middle School exemplifies the best of AVID in a school wide setting. It has a warm, welcoming and student centered campus where the college going culture is evident in classes, offices and common areas. Students talk about the culture of respect and caring, and teachers and administrators demonstrate it in their talk and actions. There are many things to share with the larger AVID world. Homework Hotline

Parents are also reminded that daily assignments can be checked by calling into the JMS homework hotline. Each team posts the daily assignments to a voicemail that can be heard by calling 351.3791 and the extensions below.
