Stratton Holds Assembly to Kick-off "Stratton Loves Reading" Literacy Initiative

The students and staff at Stratton held a Kick-off Reading Assembly on Tuesday, October 16th to introduce our school-wide literacy initiative, "Stratton Loves Reading." Every student was surprised to receive a new school shirt with our reading incentive slogan emblazoned on the front. The  celebration featured music by our music teacher Ms. Schmidt and Ms. Reger's 5th grade class, a surprise dance by the staff, and celebrity guests from the community. The guests joined students, staff, and parents in the gym for a rousing presentation by our principal, Mr. Thomas, who challenged the students to collectively read 10,000 books by the end of the year! Next, Stratton staff shared information on a variety of reading incentives taking place at Stratton this year, including the "Sharing the Love . . . Family Reading Initiative," the Word of the Week, the Word Pattern of the Week, the Book Nook, the Book Recommendation Program, and the Stratton Battle of the Books.  Mr. Thomas then introduced each of the 22 guest readers from the community. After the assembly, each guest accompanied a class back to their room to share a book with them. It was a great success! Many of the books the guests read to the students were purchased for the event by our generous partners at 1st Presbyterian Church and were donated to the Stratton school library in the reader's name.
