Schools of Choice Info Session - Tuesday, January 27, 2015

Families of incoming kindergarten students are encouraged to attend the first of two evening Info Sessions on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at 6 p.m. at Stratton Elementary School. The Info Session will provide families with an overview of the Schools of Choice process, showcase each of the District's 12 elementary schools, and provide the opportunity to ask questions of Choice staff members.

National Mentoring Month

​January is National Mentoring Month and Champaign Unit 4 is taking time out to thank mentors with several events and opportunities.  Unit 4 Schools’ One to One mentoring Program is a school-based mentoring program that matches community based adult volunteers with local school children.   There are currently 368 One to One mentor pairs participating in Champaign Schools.   Unit 4 also supports mentors from TALKS mentoring and Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Jefferson Middle School Receives $5,000 Courtyard Improvement Grant

Champaign's Jefferson Middle School has received a $5,000 grant from Lowe’s Toolbox for Education. Jefferson students and staff, along with community partners, will renovate the school’s underutilized courtyard to create an activ​e interdisciplinary outdoor classroom and enrich library programs. The space currently has a small pond area built a number of years ago by science teachers and prairie patch which the East Central Illinois Master Naturalists p

Board of Education Votes to Place New Referendum on April Ballot

At its meeting Monday, the Champaign Board of Education voted unanimously to place a new $144 million facilities referendum on the April 7, 2015 ballot. The new proposal would include a new Central High School, expansion of Centennial High School, a new Dr. Howard Elementary School, and targeted renovations to the existing Central High School facility.

Dear Unit 4 Community:

Following the November referendum, the Administration and Board have looked at ways the proposed plan can best meet our facility needs and garner the support of a majority of voters. 

We have taken to heart the community and staff feedback we have received and the Board has worked diligently to create a new plan that encompasses this feedback and the values of our community.
