Five from Unit 4 have been name National Merit Commended Students in the 2016 National Merit Scholarship Program. Grant Carlson (Centennial), Zachary Miller (Centennial), McCarthey Dressman (Central), Emily Madden (Central), and Hollee Trent (Central) have each received this honor.

“We are incredibly proud of these students for this accomplishment,” said Superintendent Dr. Judy Wiegand. “They have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success. We hope this recognition will open doors to new educational opportunities in the future and encourage them to pursue their dreams as they plan for life after graduation.”

This year, about 34,000 Commended students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2016 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2016 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

This year, the District also announced three National Merit Semi-Finalists who will advance in the National Merit Scholarship competition.
