Annual Warm-A-Kid Coat Drive

Fri, 10/16/2015 - 10:08am

Once again, the Champaign Schools Family Information Center will sponsor its annual "Warm-A-Kid Program."  The primary goal of this program is to ensure that no student in Champaign Schools is without a coat, hat, or gloves during the winter season. Our drive begins in the fall of each year.  During this time, we collect coats, hats and gloves, and distribute these items to the children prior to our winter break.

The “Warm-A-Kid” program has been very effective in meeting the needs of children in Champaign Unit 4 Schools for seventeen years, and is an integral part of our educational system.  We have served more than 8,000 children and several families from the surrounding communities with new and used coats.  We have also been able to donate used adult coats to the Women in Transition Program, A Woman’s Fund Inc., and the Times Center (Homeless Shelter for Men).

The number of low income and families in transition in our District continues to grow.  We hope we are able to respond to all of the calls cheerfully, and that is my request to you. I need your help to put a coat on at least one child.  Your gift will make a difference however great or small, and will be remembered for years to come.

The “Warm-A-Kid” Program is solely funded through donations received from our local community.  My enthusiasm and expectancy for this program remains the same.  Each year we have  managed to give a coat to every child in need. You may forward your donations to our offices in the old Columbia school building located at 1103 N. Neil Street in Champaign.  All donations are tax deductible. The most common coat sizes needed for boys and girls are sizes 8 through 16.

As with any great cause, seizing the opportunity to make a difference in a child's, or family's life will require willing partners who deeply believe in the cause and demonstrate their belief by the investment they are willing to make.  Special thanks to those of you who have consistently supported us each year.  You have been the backbone of our success.

To those of you who have not joined us as yet, please consider this request.  We hope you will support us if you can.

With Gratitude,
