South Side Students "Bring The Change" for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

During the week of April 24th-28th South Side Elementary students participated in a fundraiser called "Bring The Change" for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This year students brought the change in honor of the Assistant Principal's neice who has leukemia.

Every day had a theme for that week; Monday was pajama penny day, Tuesday was neon nickle day, Wednesday was dazzling dimes (wear something that makes you feel UNIQUE!), Thursday was crazy quarter day, and Friday was Team Up for Leukemia where they showed support for their favorite sports teams. The students and staff had a great time participating in the spirit week and were extremely generous. Students were sent home with a small box that they were to bring back and forth between home and school with each donation depending on the day. All boxes were collected and taken to Coinstar to be donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. After collecting all the boxes, South Side students donated a whopping $1,234.09, and $876.09 of that was in coins!

Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient services. They exist to find cures and ensure access to treatments for blood cancer patients. This has been a great way to teach our students of Unit 4 schools how they too can make an impact not only in our community, but nationally as well!
