Two Centennial Track Athletes Qualify For State

Fri, 05/19/2017 - 1:42pm

Two members of the Centennial boys track team will be competing at the state meet next weekend in Charleston, IL.

Henoc Mondika qualified in the 400 meter dash. Henoc and his family moved to Champaign from the Congo in September of 2015. He didnt speak any English and had never been part of any organized sport. Henoc is such a hard-worker and is so very deserving of the opportunity to compete among the state's best.

Jonathan McNamara will be racing in the 100, 200 and 400 meter wheelchair races at the state meet. Jonathan is the first wheelchair athlete from Centennial High School to compete in the IHSA state track meet, and will be a fantastic representative for Centennial's track team. He has improved a ton in a very short time, racing for the first time just over a month ago.

Both of these young men have put in a lot of hard work to get to the point where they are among the state's elite. Prelim races will be held next Friday, May 26th and the finals will be on Saturday, May 27th. Good luck boys!
