Champaign Unit #4 Schools Meet Annual Measurable Achievement Objectives for 2004-2005

Tue, 02/14/2006 - 12:00am

The Illinois State Board of Education has notified Champaign School District’s administration that its 311 Limited English Proficient (LEP) students met the Annual Measurable Achievement Objectives (AMAOs) for 2004-2005.  The AMAO targets set by the Illinois State Board of Education are based on cohorts of LEP students on locally administered state approved English language proficiency assessments as well as the performance of LEP students on state administered achievement assessments (IMAGE or ISAT). AMAOs include three target criteria: English Language Proficiency, Progress toward English Language Proficiency, and Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP).  To meet AMAOs, a district must achieve all targets defined by the state in all three areas.   This is the second year that AMAO calculations have been made and the second consecutive year that the Champaign Schools have met and/or exceeded the state standards.

School districts that do not meet AMAOs must inform all parents of children identified for participation in Title lll funded programs such as the Language Instruction Program for Limited English Proficient students (LIPLEPS) and/or the Immigrant Education Program (IEP).  This determination must be sent in writing within 30 days of receipt of notification.
