DR. JUDY WIEGAND CONFIRMED AS CHAMPAIGN UNIT 4 SUPERINTENDENT
The Board of Education for Champaign Unit 4 Schools has confirmed the permanent appointment of Dr. Judy Wiegand as Superintendent of Champaign Unit 4 Schools. At the March 12 meeting, Board members unanimously approved her contract.
Dr. Wiegand has served as Interim Superintendent since January, assuming that role following the departure of Dr. Robert Malito, the District’s previous Interim Superintendent. Dr. Wiegand has served in the Champaign Unit 4 School District since 1987, beginning as a special education teacher. Since that time she has also served as Dean of Students, Assistant Principal and Principal of Centennial High School, Director of Secondary Education, Assessment, and Professional Development and Assistant Superintendent for Achievement and Pupil Services. Dr. Wiegand earned her Doctorate in Education and Organizational Leadership from the University of Illinois in 2003.
Dr. Wiegand said, “It is truly an honor and privilege to serve the students and families in Champaign, and I am committed to providing this community schools that provide the very best for its students. I am eager to continue and accelerate the work already begun during my term as Interim Superintendent."
Dr. Wiegand will continue building a team to lead the District. In January, Dr. Laura Taylor was appointed Assistant Superintendent for Achievement and Pupil Services for the Champaign Unit 4 School District. That appointment will become effective July 1, 2012.
