New principal named for Barkstall Elementary

The Champaign Unit 4 Board of Education has approved the appointment of Jaime Roundtree as Principal of Barkstall Elementary School. Mr. Roundtree will succeed Principal Trudy Walters who is retiring at the end of the 2011-2012 school year.

Mr. Roundtree currently serves as Assistant Principal of Bottenfield Elementary School, and previously served as a fifth grade teacher at South Side Elementary School. He holds Masters’ Degrees in Elementary Ed and in Educational and Organizational Leadership from the University of Illinois. He has been with the District since 2005.

According to Superintendent Judy Wiegand, “Trudy Walters has provided exemplary leadership at Barkstall and in the District throughout her career. We were fortunate to have to make a difficult choice among very qualified candidates to succeed her. I am confident Mr. Roundtree will be an excellent Principal, and I invite the community to join me in welcoming him to Barkstall.”
