District to save $400K on energy costs
May 23, 2012
Chief Operations Officer Gene Logas estimates a recent energy contract will save the District approximately $431,100 over its three year duration.
With electricity costs running at seven year lows, the Champaign Unit 4 School District sought to lock in rates for electric use throughout the District prior to the expiration of the current contract with First Energy Solution in August 2012. The district compared quotes from eight companies. At their meeting on May 21, 2012, the Board of Education approved a contract with Vanguard Energy Services/Ameren Energy Marketing for three years at a weighted average of $.043890 as compared with the current rate of 0.05826. The estimated savings average $143,700 per year, or $431,100 over the three year contract.
