Basic Overview of Project:

This project provides opportunities for students in grades 4-6 to design investigations based on scientific approaches. It is in conjunction with the ChickScope Project at the University of Illinois. See Chickscope. The teaching and learning strategies offered in this project incorporate interaction with the internet, problem solving through cooperative learning and hands-on experimentation, using inquiry approaches, as well as collaboration with other students outside the classroom using CU-SeeMe software. In addition, students use MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) which offers realtime data to help them predict and analyze data via Beckman Institute. This project is also part of an animal exploration unit which allows students in grades 4 -6 opportunities to design investigations based on scientific approaches to determine what each class of vertebrate animal needs to survive and reproduce. For more details of this unit, see Animal Exploration Unit. The Purpose of this Web site:

This site offers details of student responses and interactions with the "From Egg to Chick - Chickscope Project". For more details on the day to day teacher lesson plans of specific activities in which students were involved see Eggciting Experiments Hatching Chicks.
