Request a Chromebook

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and extended school closure, the Unit 4 school district is working to provide district Chromebooks to households who may need additional support. If you are interested in receiving a district Chromebook for your student, it will be checked out to your student who will be responsible for its care.

To request a district Chromebook, fill out this form: https://forms.gle/xmdPE6ihcwPeAkUi8

A separate form will need to be submitted for each student for which you wish to request a device.

If you do not have access to a device to complete the form to request a Chromebook, please contact your child's school and ask that they submit the request on your behalf.

Requests will be evaluated based upon the supply of devices available. Once evaluated, the District will reach out via phone or email to notify families if their request will be granted with a date and time for pick up.

Chromebook Repairs

The IT department has been working to develop a smooth and effective program in which we can efficiently repair Chromebooks. We believe we have devised a system in which we can repair Chromebooks while providing safety to the students along with our staff.

Chromebook repairs will happen every Tuesday at the Windsor Administrative Building from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m.

The following steps must be followed by the student/parent before coming to get their Chromebook repaired:

  • The Student/Parent MUST fill out the following form: bit.ly/U4ChromebookIssueForm
  • After filling out the form, a member of the IT staff will review it. If they are able to fix the Chromebook remotely, they will contact the family to do so. If not, an email will be sent with information regarding the repair.
  • On the following Tuesday, the student/family should arrive at their scheduled time. We will have different signs outside of Windsor with different numbers, along with the number to the IT Helpdesk. The family must call into the Helpdesk line and provide the person the name of the student along with the number in which they are parked.
  • Once our staff has verified the student/parent, someone will come outside and grab the device from the family. (Our staff will be wearing PPE for the protection of themselves and the family).
  • Once our staff has taken the device, the family can either
    • A. Wait for the device to be repaired (depending on the repair and staff available, they typically take 10-15 minutes.
    • B. Leave and return at a later time THE SAME DAY. We want to ensure the student gets their device back the day of the repair to continue with their online learning.

Things to keep in mind:

  • For High School Families, we will be keeping track of the student's repairs as our techs typically do. Students are still being charged for repairs as they would be at the schools. Repair prices will be based on the residual value. This will be added to their accounts as they were previously.
  • We will continue to do Monday Chromebook repairs until June 8th.
  • We also have a Google Document which shows some basic troubleshooting issues to allow the families support on certain problems they can do remotely. That document can be here: bit.ly/U4ChromebookIssues
  • The Student/Parent MUST fill out this form: click here
  • After filling out the form, a member of our IT staff will contact the Student/Parent to assess the issue and see if they can fix the issue remotely. If they are unable to do that, they will set up a time for the Chromebook to be dropped off for repair.
  • On the Monday they are scheduled for repair, the student and/or parent should arrive at their appointment time. We will have different signs outside of the Windsor building along with different numbers (think Walmart pickup) and the phone number to the IT Helpdesk. The family must call into the Helpdesk line and provide the name of the student along with the number in which they are parked.
  • Once our staff has verified the student/parent, a member of our staff will come outside and grab the device from the family. (Our staff will be wearing PPE for the protection of themselves and the family).
  • Once our staff has taken the device, the family can either:
    • A. Wait for the device to be repaired (depending on the repair and staff available, they typically take 10-15 minutes
    • B. Can leave and return at a later time THE SAME DAY. We want to ensure the student gets their device back the day of the repair to continue with their online learning.
