Backpack and school supply drive for Unit 4 students at Douglass Park

Kindergarten Readiness

Social-emotional and academic activities that jump-start your child’s kindergarten journey and help you support their learning throughout the school year.

PFLL (Parent Family Learning Lab)

The Parent and Family Learning Lab is a collaboration between Project READ, Champaign Unit 4, and the Champaign Public Library Douglass Branch. Parenting education, children’s education, adult education/ESL support, library services, and parent and child together activities are provided. Parents receive instruction from Project READ tutors, while children will get homework and reading and math help from certified Unit 4 teachers. We have library nights to help families learn more about how to use the library resources.

Special Person’s Day: National holiday that celebrates grandparents, extended family, mentors, and friends within your child’s support system. Students are given the opportunity to invite their parents, grandparents, special family friend, or a significant person to visit their classroom. Invited guests can share lunch with the student, volunteer to read to students, or assist the teacher in the classroom.

Unit 4/Park District Summer Camp

This is a 6-week summer camp held at Garden Hills. Students get extra help with math and reading taught by certified teachers and arts and enrichment by the Park District staff.

Warm-A-Kid

The Warm-A-Kid program has been very effective in meeting the needs of children in Champaign Unit 4 Schools for over 20 years, as meeting the basic needs of our students is a fundamental part of our educational system. We have served countless children and families from our community with the help of generous donors.

The number of low-income households and families in transition in our district continues to grow. We hope we are able to respond to all of the calls, and that is our request to you. We need your help to put a coat on at least one child. The Warm-A-Kid program is solely funded through donations received from our local community. Your gift, however great or small, will make a difference and will be remembered for years to come.
You may forward your donations (new coats and/or monetary donations made payable to Warm-A-Kid) to Unit 4's Center for Family and Community Engagement, located at 703 S. New St., Champaign. All donations are tax deductible. The following are the most common coat sizes needed:

  • Boys 5/6, 6/7, 10/12, 14/16; men's S and M
  • Girls 5/6, 6/7, 7/8, 10/12, 14/16; women's S, M, and L

As with any great cause, seizing the opportunity to make a difference in a child's life requires willing partners who deeply believe in the cause and demonstrate their belief through their investment. Special thanks to those of you who have consistently supported us each year; you have been the cornerstone of our success. To those of you who have not joined us yet, please consider this request. We hope you will support us if you can. Thank you for any and all donations!

Young Achievers
Every year we honor outstanding fifth-grade students from across the district in the areas of Academic Achievement, Ambassador of Goodwill, Arts, and Sports. Teachers nominate students who they believe best represent what it means to be a Young Achiever in Unit 4.
