Nine Unit 4 Students Receive Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarships

Nine Unit 4 high school seniors have received scholarships from the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. "Living the Dream" Scholarship Fund. 

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Advocacy for Justice Committee awards scholarships annually to high school seniors who display need and excel academically. Each student will receive a $1,000 scholarship for each of the four years they attend college.  Additionally, if the students attend the University of Illinois, the University will triple that amount, resulting in an award of $3,000 per year for four years. Tougaloo College in Jackson, Mississippi will double the scholarship amount if students attend their school, resulting in an award of $2,000 per year for four years. Each student received their scholarship at the Advocacy for Justice Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Celebration e​vent at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday.

 D’Mayza McClure of Central High School also received the Herb Stevens Memorial Scholarship where she read her essay at the Community Breakfast at Vineyard Church on January 19.
