Champaign Unit 4 School District is proud to recognize Jimmy John’s as an exemplary community partner for their support of the District’s technology implementation. This school year, Jimmy John’s has donated more than 100 laptop computers that the District  has utilized to impact student learning.

The gently used computers were formerly used by Jimmy John’s employees, but are helping to meet the need for devices in our community schools.

“We are incredibly grateful for these donated devices and the immediate impact they have on our students and faculty,” said Superintendent Dr. Judy Wiegand. “As we move toward the “one-to-one” technology model that puts a device in the hands of every student, it is critical that we have community partners like Jimmy John’s to support us along the way.”

The donated computers can now be found at Centennial High School, Central High School, Franklin Middle School, International Prep Academy, Dr. Howard Elementary School, Garden Hills Elementary School, and Kenwood Elementary School.
Students can access the computers for research, collaboration, document creation, and presenting in the classroom. In the classroom, students can also access the SMART Board and the document camera using these computers. Teachers and other faculty are also able to utilize the computers to meet immediate technology needs.

Soon, each of the District’s 12 elementary schools District will also receive three of the laptops donated by Jimmy John’s for use specifically in the school library. In the library, computers are utilized to access library resources, conduct research, create documents, collaborate with peers, and access digital curriculum.
Unit 4 teachers shared the following words of appreciation as part of this recognition:

“The laptop you brought us is in the band room by the smart board. Thank you Jimmy! We use this laptop every day for attendance, emails, band rehearsals, and guitar classes. It has become an indispensable tool for band and guitar.”
- Michael Allen and Nick Schulze, Centennial High School Band Directors

“Thank you very much for donating this lap top to my classroom. This laptop has allowed me to use more digital media in the classroom as well as give the students access to more interactive curriculum. My students love to interact with their curriculum as well as experiment with different modes of learning using technology. My students and I are very grateful for your generous gift.”
- Brandi Boyd, 2nd Grade Teacher at Garden Hills Elementary School

Jimmy John’s has also funded educational field trip opportunities for Unit 4 middle school students over the past three years. Destinations have included Chicago’s Museum of Science & Industry and Shedd Aquarium, as well as the Indianapolis Zoo. Jimmy John’s generously provided charter buses, tickets and lunch for students.
