Unit 4 to Honor Board of Education Members

Fri, 11/13/2015 - 12:15pm

Champaign Unit 4 School District will recognize the members of its Board of Education at Monday’s special meeting as part of School Board Members Day in Illinois, which is November 15. Unit 4 is joining other districts across the state to thank these community volunteers for their commitment and contributions to our public schools.

Champaign Schools extends our thanks to our Board of Education members:
•                    Christopher Kloeppel
•                    Amy Armstrong
•                    Kathy Shannon
•                    Jonathan Westfield
•                    Kathy Richards
•                    Laurie Bonnett
•                    Lynn Stuckey

Champaign Schools would also like to thank the two student ambassadors to the Board of Education from Central and Centennial High Schools:
•                    Mac Dressman, Central High School
•                    Inyoung (Summer) Choi, Centennial High School

School Board members serve countless hours working to make public education the best it can be for every child. In a climate of change and challenge, they develop policies and make tough decisions on educational and social issues that affect the entire community and the lives of individual students. They bear responsibility and oversight in Unit 4 for an annual budget of $152 million, nearly 10,000 students in grades pre-K through 12, more than 1,800 employees, and 19 campuses.

In honor of School Board Member Day, Board of Education members will receive gifts generously donated by the students at Booker T. Washington STEM Academy. Gifts include a music CD about insects written, recorded, and published by 2nd grade students with the assistance of Music Teacher Mrs. Abby Crull. They will also receive 3D printed toys created in Mr. John Odum’s art class and printed in the school’s STEM lab. The District will donate $50 to the charity of each board member and student ambassador’s choice as part of the District’s annual United Way Combined Charities Campaign.
