Unit 4's Young Entrepreneurship Program to Kick-Off in Research Park

Thu, 01/21/2016 - 1:33pm

Champaign Unit 4 School District will kick off its 2016 Young Entrepreneurship Program (YEP) at EnterpriseWorks in the University of Illinois Research Park on January 26. YEP connects Unit 4 high school students with leaders in the business community. The goals of YEP are to create awareness of entrepreneurship opportunities to young people, create small businesses, enhance the local economy, empower students as they transition into the workforce, and provide ongoing support for their success.

Participants dedicate time outside of the school day to participate in YEP and are assigned a community mentor who lends their expertise and guidance to the student as they develop a business plan and work to launch their own small business.
All 14 Unit 4 High School student entrepreneurs, their parents, their community mentors, and guests will be present for the Kick-off Celebration.  The program will include introductions of the students and their mentors. The District will also welcome guest speaker Marissa Siebel, Co-Founder and Vice President of Inteliwheels located in EnterpriseWorks.
“We are excited to help students realize their dreams of creating and launching their own businesses," said Marc Changnon, District Coordinator for Career Programs & Community Partnerships for the District. “Our students are working to meet the challenges of the competitive job market that awaits them after graduation. The initiative they are showing with their participation in this program outside the classroom speaks to the drive and persistence our students have to achieve success."
