Champaign Unit 4 School District has notified incoming kindergarten families of their school assignments for the 2017-2018 school year and would like to update the community on this year’s Schools of Choice process.

This year’s initial assignment process resulted in 702 total applications, about equal to the 708 received in 2016-2017. Of that number, 670 (95%) were assigned to one of their chosen schools for the 2017-2018 school year. 595 (85%) received their first choice. This year thirty-two families had assignments still pending after the initial assignment process and have been offered seats at other schools as well as wait list options.

Of the 702 Applications:

4.56 percent of families had assignments pending after initial assignment run

48.72 percent were free/reduced lunch applicants

94.30 percent of families received one of their top 5 choices

84.76 percent of families received their first choice

4.70 percent of families received their second choice

2.99 percent of families received their third choice

1.57 percent of families received their fourth choice

0.28 percent of families received their fifth choice

Once again, the District utilized Schools of Choice software developed by local firm Codagami to assign students based on the Choice policy. After contracting with Codagami during the 2014-2015 school year, the District has been able to save considerably on annual costs to administer assignments while still implementing the Choice program with fidelity.
