The Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA) congratulates the Edison Boys’ Basketball team for being selected as the 2016-2017 school year's IESA ONE TEAM Award recipient.

The award began in 2014 as a way to recognize the top member school that goes the extra mile when it comes to having an impact within their school and/or local community. Teams submitting an application are required to send photos/videos demonstrating their efforts, a recommendation letter from the school administration or community leader, and a team mission statement. The goal of the ONE TEAM award is to have students working together to connect with their school and/or community and give back by displaying active citizenship, all while simultaneously helping others.

The Edison 8th grade boys’ basketball team, with the guidance and leadership of their coach Marc Changnon developed the fundraiser "Dropping Dimes for the March of Dimes." This fundraiser helps the local market to increase awareness with education and resources for moms and babies born too soon. Mr. Changnon is not only teaching these young men basketball skills on the court, but he is teaching how to be an active citizen within the community they are living. The student-athletes came in on a Friday and were challenged to shoot 100 free throws each. The boys secured pledges for meeting the goals they set for themselves, as well as flat donations. March of Dimes received a total of $1003.00 from the team and couldn’t have been more thankful for what these young men have accomplished. The team will be formally recognized at a school awards program in May and will recieve a plaque and monetary award from the IESA for their efforts.

Young athletes choosing to come together, as one, for a greater goal of giving back off of the playing field.

Congratulations team!
