School closure extended until April 8

Fri, 03/20/2020 - 4:37pm

Dear Unit 4 Staff and Families: | Chers Familles et Personnels de l’Unit 4 | Estimado personal y familias de la Unidad 4:

On Friday, March 20, the Governor of Illinois mandated, due to the COVID-19 public health crisis, that all public and private schools remain closed until April 8. This closure includes all District events, practices, travel and activities. That means the new return to school date as of right now is April 8. However, please know this could change again.

This is the news we have been preparing for, and yet, I know it is news many of us hoped not to hear.

District Administrators have been working since the first school closure announcement on ways to continue providing educational opportunities and meals to students.

Our current food distribution plan for March 23-30 remains the same. We have also put together learning resources students can use at home. You can find those on our website.

We will update families with details on plans past March 30 early next week. Those plans will include:

  • Meal distribution
  • At home learning

Unit 4 will continue using school messenger and the District’s website and social media pages to update our families.

We appreciate your continued flexibility and understanding. The health and safety of our students and staff is, and will continue to be, our top priority. While I know this is a stressful and challenging time for all of us, I know our Unit 4 Community will get through this together.

Sincerely,

Dr. Susan Zola

Superintendent
