Wed, 09/09/2020 - 4:35pm

Three Unit 4 students have been selected as National Merit Semifinalists in the 66th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. Unit 4 Students who received this honor are:

  • Alexander D Ahmari (Central H.S.)
  • Mina Kim (Central H.S.)
  • Anjali D Murphy (Central H.S.)

Only 16,000 high school seniors across the country are named National Merit Semifinalists. Of the Semifinalists, 15,000 students will advance as Finalists and compete for more than $30 million in National Merit Scholarships next spring. More than half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship and earn the Merit Scholar title.

To become a Finalist, the Semifinalist and a high school official must submit a detailed scholarship application, in which they provide information about the Semifinalist’s academic record, participation in school, community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received. A Semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, and write an essay.
