Recognitions and Upcoming Events - April 9, 2013

Congratulations to the Jefferson Middle School Archery team on their success at the state archery competition! The 6th grade team took 1st place in the State in the Elementary Division, while 7th and 8th grade took 2nd in the State in the Middle School Division. The team will advance to the national competition in Kentucky.

Carrie Busey teacher Elizabeth Slifer was selected as part of the PBS Learning Media Teacher Core, a select group of 28 teachers chosen for their dedication to the advancement of digital learning in education. Congratulations!

Barkstall Elementary School will kick off Fitness is Fun on April 8. This school-wide initiative will challenge students and teachers to log their physical activity. The initiative will kick off with a staff cycling class at the YMCA and students will receive a special “fitness rap” performance from Principal Roundtree if their goal is reached.

Middle School Schools of Choice Registration for Booker T. Washington and Stratton students will take place April 8-13, 2013.

School Board Elections* will be held April 9.

Jefferson Middle School will host an Open House for families April 9 from 6:30-8 pm

Franklin Middle School will host an Open House for families April 10 from 6:30-8 pm.

Edison Middle School will host an Open House for families April 11 from 6:30-8 pm.

Centennial High School Playmakers* will present this year's spring musical Hairspray on April 11-13 at 7 pm. and April 14 at 2 pm in the Aldridge Auditorium. Tickets are $5 for students 12 and under, $6 for students 13 and over, and $8 for adults. They may be purchased at the door or by calling the school at 351-3951. Champaign Schools will host a Family & Community Forum at Bottenfield Elementary School* on April 15 at 6 pm to gather input in the search for two new building administrators.

Champaign Schools will host an Open House for the new Central High School College & Career Center* on April 16 from 5:30-6:30 pm.

Central High School Children’s Theater* will present Into The Woods April 17-20 at 7 pm and at 2:30 pm on April 21 in the Decker Theater. The cost is $5 for children 10 and under, $7 for students, and $10 for adults. Please contact LaDonna Wilson ( for more information.
