Champaign Unit 4 School District will host a public meeting for residents of the Spalding Park neighborhood to gather feedback regarding the possibility of using the park and surrounding area for a new Central High School.

The informal meeting will be held in the Franklin Middle School gymnasium on Friday, June 13 from 5-7 p.m. Pizza will be provided and families are welcome to attend any time during the two-hour time period. Informational materials will be available and representatives from the School District will be present to talk with residents.

The Champaign Unit 4 School District is currently evaluating the possibility of building a new Central High School at one of two sites: the Spalding Park site and the site at Interstate Drive and Neil Street, purchased earlier this year.

“It is very important for us to hear from the residents in this area before making any final decisions,” said Superintendent Dr. Judy Wiegand. “We are in the business of serving families and we need to truly hear from the families and residents in this area to see if building a high school at Spalding Park is something they would support. We also want to hear their questions and concerns regarding the possible acquisition of homes.”

All community members are invited to attend.
