Recognitions and Upcoming Events - April 9, 2013

Congratulations to the Jefferson Middle School Archery team on their success at the state archery competition! The 6th grade team took 1st place in the State in the Elementary Division, while 7th and 8th grade took 2nd in the State in the Middle School Division. The team will advance to the national competition in Kentucky.

Carrie Busey teacher Elizabeth Slifer was selected as part of the PBS Learning Media Teacher Core, a select group of 28 teachers chosen for their dedication to the advancement of digital learning in education. Congratulations!

Jefferson Middle School Wins My Voice National Student Mock Election Award

The My Voice National Student Mock Election is pleased to announce that Jefferson Middle School is the honorable mention recipient of the National Association of Secondary School Principals Award for outstanding contributions to teaching democracy – 2012 School Project. Leading educational organizations, in conjunction with the My Voice National Student Mock Election, sponsored awards for outstanding student voter educational projects.

Champaign Schools to Host National African-American Parent Involvement Day Events

On Monday, February 11 each of Champaign Unit 4 School District’s eighteen campuses will celebrate National African-American Parent Involvement Day (NAAPID) as part of a month-long observance of Black History Month.

NAAPID invites African-American Parents in Unit 4 to visit their child’s school, meet with teachers, visit classrooms, volunteer in classrooms, and have lunch with their child. Schools will each be putting together special programming for the day. Below is a snapshot of what some of the Unit 4 Schools have planned for the day. 

Twenty-Five Unit 4 Students Recognized in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Writing Contest

Twenty-five Unit 4 students have been recognized for their winning and honorable mention contributions to the 11th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Essay Contest sponsored by the University of Illinois Center for Education in Small Urban Communities. 

Local Trades to Support Builders Club at Jefferson Middle School

This week, Dan McCall, President of the Bricklayers Local #8, will present a check to Jefferson Middle School in support of their new Builders Club.

The Builders Club will give students the opportunity to learn practical skills and explore future careers such as carpentry, plumbing, electricity, and masonry while still at Jefferson. Funds from the Bricklayers Local #8 will be used to purchase supplies for the students to get started.
