Board Approves Administrative Appointments

The Champaign Unit 4 Board of Education approved three administrative appointments at their meeting on Monday, June 11. These appointments become effective August 1.

Jefferson named SMART Showcase Elite School

Jefferson Middle School has been selected as a 2012 SMART Showcase Elite School, one of only 25 in the nation.

Students Skype with award-winning author thanks to Champaign Rotary

Thanks to the generous support of the Champaign Rotary Club, a group of eighth graders at Jefferson Middle School were recently given an opportunity to meet via SKYPE the Newberry Award winning author, Linda Sue Park. The author’s book, A Long Walk to Water, was part of a semester long service learning project and essay contest sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of Champaign.

National Social Studies Teacher of the Year

Christine Adrian, Social Studies teacher at Jefferson Middle School, has been selected as the 2011 Outstanding Middle Level Social Studies Teacher of the Year Award recipient. The award will be presented during the 91st Annual Conference of the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS), “Dimensions of Diversity” in Washington, D.C., at a special Outstanding Social Studies Teacher of the Year Awards Ceremony on Friday morning, December 2, 2011.

Unit 4 Educators to Travel to Costa Rica

Geoff Freymuth, educator at Jefferson Middle School, and Joshua Wiechert, educator at Franklin Middle School, have been selected to participate this summer in global graduate studies that focus on studying neotropical ecology in the Central American country of Costa Rica.
