South Side Students "Bring The Change" for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

During the week of April 24th-28th South Side Elementary students participated in a fundraiser called "Bring The Change" for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This year students brought the change in honor of the Assistant Principal's neice who has leukemia.

South Side Receives $5,000 Donation to Fund Heart Rate Monitors

Thanks to the efforts of Physical Education teacher Brian Wenzel, South Side Elementary School has received a $5,000 donation from The Charles W. Christie Foundation to fund their heart rate project.  

South Side will receive 30 heart rate monitors from Heart Zone Systems.  The heart rate monitors allow teachers to assess students objectively, accurately quantifies moderate to vigorous activity (MVPA), and allows teachers to set measurable teacher performance goals. 

Unit 4 Board Narrows Focus on November Referendum Projects

At tonight's meeting, the Unit 4 Board of Education narrowed its focus to the final projects it would like to consider including in a school facilities referendum for the November election. Next Monday, August 15, the Board will make its final decision on the wording of the question that will appear on the ballot. 

Unit 4 Celebrates 2,000+ Volunteers During National Volunteer Week

As Unit 4 celebrates National Volunteer Week April 11th – April 16th, we thank over 2,000 volunteers who volunteer on a regular basis, donating over 20,000 hours of time. A few of our outstanding volunteers are highlighted below.

South Side Students Invited to Fuel Up to Play 60 Summit

South Side Elementary School has been invited to attend the Fuel Up to Play 60 Reward Summit on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 in St. Louis, MO, sponsored by the Midwest Dairy Council. 

This Summit recognizes schools that focus on promoting an active and healthy culture. More than 100 South Side students are currently a part of the Fuel Up Team, which is led by Bill Taylor (Principal), Brian Wenzel (Physical Education Teacher), and Destiny Decker (School Nurse). As part of this program, students are staying active and making healthy eating choices.
