Board of Education Approves Five Appointments

The Unit 4 Board of Education approved five administrative appointments during its July 12 meeting.

Delgado Named IPA Bilingual Assistant Principal
Guadalupe Delgado was appointed Bilingual Assistant Principal at International Prep Academy. She served as a Dual Language Teacher with Urbana School District #116 since beginning her career in education in 2016.

Delgado has a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a master’s in Educational Policy, Organization, and Leadership from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Gillespie Tabbed Assistant Director of Food Service
Megan Gillespie was named the District’s Assistant Director of Food Service. She joined Unit 4 as Office Manager at Barkstall Elementary in Feb. 2020 after spending three years as Director of Events at Refinery and one and a half years as Catering Supervisor with Spectra at the University of Illinois.

Gillespie has a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Concordia University in St. Paul, Minn.

Dr. Harden Appointed Executive Director of Engagement & Social-Emotional Learning
Dr. James Harden was appointed as the Executive Director of Engagement & Social-Emotional Learning after teaching in Springfield School District 186 since 2019.

Dr. Harden began his career in education in 1999 as a high school teacher with Urbana School District #116. He left that position to join Unit 4 as Dean of Students at Franklin Middle School and later served at Edison Middle School. From 2007-11, Dr. Harden served as Minority Teacher Identification & Enrichment Program Coordinator and Assistant Professor at Eastern Illinois University and was an Assistant Professor at Harris Stowe State University from 2012-14. He was Principal for Harmony Edge School District, East St. Louis School District 189, and the Crete-Monee School District. Dr. Harden spent two years as Executive Director of Human Resources & Student Services at McLean County Unit District #5 before accepting his teaching role in Springfield.

Dr. Harden earned his bachelor’s in Secondary Education and master’s in Education Administration from Eastern Illinois University. He earned his Doctorate in Education and Organizational Leadership from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Reif Named Director of Secondary Teaching & Learning (6-12) & Special Programs
David Reif was named Director of Secondary Teaching & Learning (6-12) & Special Programs after serving as the District’s Secondary Coordinator of Teaching and Learning since 2019-20.

Reif began his career in education as a Math Teacher at Urbana High School. In 2014, he joined Unit 4 as a Math Teacher at Jefferson Middle School for five years before moving into his role in Teaching and Learning.

He earned his bachelor’s in Mathematics, with a minor in Education, and master’s in Education Organization and Leadership from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Wright Appointed Associate Principal at Centennial High School
Sheffeia Wright was appointed as Associate Principal at Centennial High School after serving as Assistant Principal at Robeson Elementary and Booker T. Washington STEM Academy since joining Unit 4 in 2018.

Wright began her career in education as a third grade teacher in Columbus, Miss., and was an eighth grade English teacher in Starkville, Miss. After relocating to Chicago in 2004, she joined Frederick A. Douglass Academy as an International Baccalaureate Language/AVID Teacher. In 2009, Wright began her teaching and administrative roles with Chicago Public Schools, holding positions of Student Development Specialist, AVID Leadership Coach/Professional Development Facilitator, AVID Leadership Coach/Teacher, Acting Assistant Principal, and Assistant Principal. She then spent three years as District Climate Administrator/District Student Discipline Hearing Officer at Rich Township High School in Matteson, Ill., before moving into the role of Assistant Principal of Teaching and Learning at North Chicago Community High School. Wright was an Assistant Principal with Waukegan Public Schools before joining BTW as Assistant Principal and Acting Principal.

Wright earned a bachelor’s in Elementary Education from Mississippi State University and a Master of Education in Administration and Supervision from National Louis University.
