Centennial High School freshman Max Braun became the first state tennis champion in school history by winning the Class 1A singles title Saturday in Arlington Heights.

Braun, seeded sixth, defeated Evanston Beacon Academy’s Peter Adams-Agresti, 7-6 (4), 6-2, in the final. He never dropped a set in six state singles matches over three days.

Braun’s older brother, James, and teammate Lino Jo became Centennial’s first boys’ tennis state medalists earlier in the week, when they placed sixth in the doubles tournament.

With the singles title and doubles finish, Centennial accumulated 22 team points, the second highest total among 1A schools.
