Learning About Juneteenth | Juneteenth Planning Resources and Ideas

Juneteenth is an officially recognized holiday in Champaign Unit 4 Schools. The June 19th celebration commemorates the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States. Texas was the first state to celebrate the holiday on June 19, 1865, when following the Civil War, enslaved people were declared free under the terms of the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation.
