Band:

Students are offered instruction in strings from 5th grade through 12th grade in all Unit 4 schools. Middle School band classes are grade level classes. Each middle school grade level meets daily for a full class period. Students also have opportunities to participate in state level music ensembles through the Illinois Music Educator Association and solo or small ensemble opportunities with the annual Solo & Ensemble experience.

Strings program goals: Students will learn body format, right/left hand skills, aural skills, ear training, rhythmic skills, creative musicianship, music literacy, ensemble skills, expressive elements, historical cultural elements, and evaluation of music and musical performances.

Choir:

In middle school Choir class, we work together to create music and beautiful singing.

Choir Program Commitments: Our expectations are centered on the main artistic processes in the National Core Arts Standards: Creating, Performing, Responding, and Connecting. We also work to build music-reading skills and improvisation.

Choir Program Goals: Students will experience a variety of music styles in Choir class. We sing music from R&B, Pop, Broadway, Gospel and music from around the world. The experience centers on growth of singing skills and confidence. Our goal is also to build students' personal confidence as performers.

General Music:

In General Music, we explore, create, and develop music. Creative units include betmaking, remixes, and composition. Performing units include keyboard or ukulele, drumming and rapping. We listen to new music and discuss what makes music powerful and important in our lives.

General Music Commitments: Students can expect to learn about modern music appreciation, production and performance. Units are centered on project-based learning. Projects target the National and Illinois core Arts Standards for Music: Creating, Performing, Responding, and Connecting.

General Music Goals: Students will experience a wide variety of music-related activities, like listening, discussing, creating, and performing.
