At Unit 4 we believe in supporting all students with mastery of grade level math skills and content through high levels of student access to mathematical concepts and strategies used in a variety of collaborative spaces. We believe that student engagement is a key component, engaging students in real world/relevant experiences and applications through problem-based learning. Our instruction focuses on supporting students with improved agency and growth mindset as it relates to mathematics through meaningful and supportive access to all students. These beliefs are mirrored in our elementary curriculum, Savvas-enVision. enVision provides opportunities for teachers and students to engage in real world, high interest projects and problem solving. Students engage in mathematical discourse and modeling with math. Students, teachers, and families are able to utilize 2020 technologies within the enVision math platform.

  • Students will work with various materials and forms of activities, including technology-based learning, geared toward their diverse backgrounds, abilities, interests and instructional needs.
  • Students' mathematical experiences from outside the classroom will be honored and family involvement will be supported and encouraged as an important part of the learning experience.
  • Students will be engaged in thoughtful, reflective instruction and learning opportunities that support high-leverage thinking skills, problem solving that is applicable to real-world situations and strategic decision making.

College and Career Readiness is our goal for all students. Materials and instructional practices focus on big ideas and/or essential (compelling) questions that address the Illinois Learning Standards for Math.
