AP CollegeBoard and Unit 4

We are proud to share that the 2024–2025 Advanced Placement (AP) Exam scores have been released—and once again, our Unit 4 students have demonstrated outstanding achievement! Participation in AP exams continues to grow, and our scores remain consistently strong. The Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) enables willing and academically prepared students to pursue college-level studies—with the opportunity to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both—while still in high school. The AP courses in 40 subjects, each culminate in a challenging exam.

In 2024-2025, Unit 4 students took AP Exams in 24 different courses. Here are some of the highlights:

  • Unit 4’s mean score was higher than the Illinois Mean and the Global Mean in 17 of the 24 courses.

  • Unit 4 had a higher percentage of students scoring a 3 or above (which determines eligibility for college credit) in 21 of the 24 courses.

  • Overall, 79.3% of AP Exams taken by Unit 4 students earned a 3 or above, an increase from 76.8% in SY2024.

  • 30.9% of students in the graduating class of 2025 earned a 3 or higher on at least one AP exam during their high school career, earning college credit.

  • In SY2025, 658 Unit 4 students took at least one AP exam, an increase of 8% over SY2024.

  • In SY2025, Unit 4 students took 1,152 total AP Exams, an increase of 5% over SY2024.

  • In SY2025, the number of Black or African American students who took an AP exam decreased slightly from SY2024, but increased 44% from SY2023 and the number of Hispanic or Latino students who took an AP Exam increased 15% from SY2024.

“These results reflect the dedication and collaboration of our entire community—administrators, educators, students, and families,” noted David Reif, Director of Secondary Teaching and Learning at Unit 4 Schools. “Success in AP courses begins well before high school, and we're grateful for everyone who plays an integral role in laying that foundation.”
