August 21, 2023

Dear Unit 4 Families,

As the temperatures continue to rise this week, we are closely monitoring the heat to ensure the safety of all students and staff members.

All of our school buildings are equipped with air conditioning, and our Operations and Maintenance staff are monitoring these units to ensure comfortable levels.

Beginning tomorrow (Tuesday, August 22, 2023), we will not have any outdoor activities (including recess, practices, etc.) for the rest of the week. Students who are yellow bus riders will be kept indoors until their buses arrive for dismissal. Water will be provided on all yellow buses. All windows will be open on buses without air conditioning while students are transported home. Our bus drivers and monitors will be on higher alert for any children who may show signs of heat distress.

Please help ensure your children are ready for the excessive heat by allowing them to wear loose-fitted clothing and sending them to school with a refillable water bottle to keep them hydrated. Anyone who can transport their child to or from school should consider that option on the hottest days.

District leadership will watch the weather closely and adjust these plans if necessary.  Families are asked to monitor our normal communications channels, including social media, email, district website, or robocalls, for any updated information.

We hope that you will stay safe and cool this week.

Sincerely,

Champaign Unit 4 Schools
