The Unit 4 Board of Education approved two administrative appointments at the December 8th meeting.
Shane McPheron was appointed Director of Security & School Safety. Mr. McPheron joined Unit 4 in August 2022, and has served the District for the past 3 years. During this time, he has worked as a Security Officer and Security & School Safety Manager. Mr. McPheron will leave this position to become Director of Security and School Safety.
Prior to joining the District, he served in multiple roles in the safety and security field. These positions include: Deputy Sheriff-Correctional Officer at Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (1/2004-6/2006); Correctional Officer I at Federal Bureau of Prisons (10/2006-11/2006); Deputy Sheriff-Correctional Officer at Champaign County Sheriff’s Office (5/2005-3/2014); and Sergeant at the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office (3/2014-11/2021). He also served as a Field Training Officer at the county level, a Police Weapon & Tactics Trainer at the state and federal levels, a core instructional staff member at the University of Illinois Police Training Institute, and a volunteer firefighter/EMT (Illinois Firefighter II). He is a certified Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) de-escalation trainer.
Mr. McPheron is currently enrolled at Eastern Illinois University in the Organizational Development program, with a minor in Organizational Leadership, and anticipates completion of his Bachelor degree in 2027.
The effective date of employment is December 9, 2025.
Mr. Bobby Cross was appointed Director of Custodial Services and Grounds. Mr. Cross joined Unit 4 in November 2019, and has served the District for the past 6 years. During this time, he has worked as a Maintenance Worker (Buildings) and Assistant Director of Energy Management and Maintenance. Bobby will leave this position to become Director of Custodial Services and Grounds. Prior to joining Unit 4, Mr. Cross served in multiple roles in the maintenance field. These positions include: Maintenance Tech at Casey’s General Store (11/2014-04/2019) and Service Tech at Service Experts (6/2006-10/2011).
