Big congratulations to Centennial HS Senior Abigail Cicone on earning the rank of Eagle Scout through Scouting America’s Prairielands Council!

Abigail completed 21 merit badges and led a 55-hour service project to build a Free Book Library for the community. She advanced through all ranks of Scouting as a member of Troop 2119 of Friends of Champaign-Urbana Scouting.

Earning the Eagle Scout rank is a significant accomplishment, achieved by fewer than 5 percent of Scouts nationwide. We’re proud to celebrate her leadership, dedication, and commitment to service!

Congratulations to Henry Wilson on earning the rank of Eagle Scout with Scouting America through the Prairielands Council!

Henry, a student at Central High School, achieved Scouting’s highest honor after completing 21 merit badges and advancing through every rank as a member of Troop 1 of the Rotary Club of Champaign.

For his Eagle Scout service project, Henry dedicated 26 hours to painting a door for the Eastern Illinois Foodbank, helping support the organization’s mission to serve neighbors in need across our region.

Way to go, Henry!

Congratulations to Central H.S. student Tony Lugardo on earning the rank of Eagle Scout with Scouting America through the Prairielands Council!

Tony earned Scouting’s highest honor after completing 21 merit badges and leading a 90-hour service project benefiting elementary students. For his Eagle Scout Project, Tony planned and oversaw the construction of a new gaga ball pit, organizing the effort and leading a crew from start to finish. We’re proud to celebrate this incredible accomplishment and the positive impact he’s made in our community.

At Kenwood's Black History Month Assembly this afternoon, students were treated to a performance and heard from Tracy Parsons, Police Chief Tim Tyler, and Dr. Gilo Kwesi Logan.

Dr. Logan discussed his father's book, Protecting a Dream. A biographical story documenting his life from 1932, growing up in Evanston's historically Black Fifth Ward, through his career in the Evanston Police Department, and time as a bodyguard for Martin Luther King Jr.
